I haven't got a plan, I haven't got a clue / I've only got one lonely thing that's gonna see me through
I'm starting an ironically upbeat mix CD.
So far I have the following:
1. Little Black Ache by Bishop Allen
2. No Action by Elvis Costello and the Attractions (the Bakelite song)
3. No Children by The Mountain Goats
4. Under My Thumb by The Rolling Stones*
5. Much Finer by Le Tigre
6. Wonderwoman Theme*
7. Fist City by Loretta Lynn
8. Flushed From the Bathroom of Your Heart by Johnny Cash
9, Kamera by Wilco
10. Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying by Belle and Sebastian
11. Lost in the Supermarket by The Clash
12. Happiness Is A Warm Gun by The Beatles
13. Bullets by Hawksley Workman
14. Oliver's Army by Elvis Costello and the Attractions
15. The Hate Song by Abby Travis
*Not ironic so much as I find it ironic that I like them
It's worrisome how many of my favourite songs on albums or by artists are the ironically upbeat ones. As I was assembling songs, I kept thinking "Oh, that's a classic ironically upbeat song." I've been collecting them since high school.
I don't know why I tell myself I'll work in my room.
In closing, a quick note, even though I think everyone who reads this and lives in Toronto and I know in real life probably already knows, unless they don't check their email:
My 21st birthday is Thursday, I am going to drink at Gabby's, from about 10 o'clock on. If you meet the above criteria, please come by. Your presence is all the gift I need.
