Entry: Not all bad 5/12/2004

These facts should give you a good idea of my life right now:

Monday night, I had half a box of President's Choice Mac and Cheese (not even Kraft Brand Kraft Dinner) and half an $8.50 bottle of white zin.

Last night, I bought Wal-Mart's second cheapest fan.

This afternoon at 12:30, I was sitting in my pajamas eating waffles and watching Saved by the Bell.

Then, I screwed up my computer even worse.

I am considering taking a job telemarketing, if I can get it.

That's all folks.

Yes, but you made it up to me.

For that, we salute you.

Jaya: I need the work desperately, it's not selling something insane, and even if I get fired after two weeks of not meeting quota, it's two weeks' wages I can't turn down.

Wrenkin: Well I really couldn't afford the wine.

I'm still trying to figure out how the world winds up with people who will not only tolerate telemarketing and door-to-door sales jobs, but will actually enjoy them to no end. That sales job I just quit, the pinhead I was working with my first day went on endlessly about how the job was so much better than going out and getting a degree from a university. He was planning out the rest of his life around that company. It was scary. I asked what he did when he wasn't at work, and he wasn't sure what I was asking. "you know, when you're not at work, what do you do for fun?" "Hang out with the guys from work mostly." and I don't think anyone in that company had a significant other because they don't have any time to see the person and foster a relationship. I think their parents were exposed to mercury during the pregnancy or something. Mutation is the only answer I can really see. Or deep-seated psycological trauma.

Oh come on, that makes it sound like you could only afford half a box, like the old 'haggle over dented cans of tuna to save money' welfare reform mantra.

Although, if you do decide to be a telemarketer, I'm sure you'll get a job.

Telemaketing sucks. I went for my training session where they had a typed out sample phone call, and they took me through it several times. Then they told me to go on the phones and give it a shot. A couple of those later I told them I wanted to go for my lunch, and never came back.

It was a horrible jail cell type room with a giant board in front where they had everyones names, how many sales they ahd made, and how many they were short. Two consecutive weeks of not meeting your quota resulted in your getting fired. I would rather be a bum than telemarket.
